Now, I will answer some questions about storytelling that must be taken into account when performing this technique.

1- Does each pupil require a copy of a storybook?

At a general level it is not necessary because they should only listen and see some illustrations. In case you want to work something specifically, it would be possible to require a copy.

2- How many times should a story be read to the pupils?

In the beginning, the story should be simple, so once it would be fine. In case the students want to listen again, it could be repeated without problem.

3- Don´t pupils get bored if they hear the story over and over again?

I do not think so. If a story they like a lot, even if they listen to it many times they could not be bored. I think the same thing happens with movies.

4- Will I have to use the mother tongue?

I believe that the mother tongue should not be used in any case. If they do not understand a word, it would have to be explained in the second language in such a way that they can understand it. On the other hand, with the illustrations that come in the stories you can understand the words.

5- How can I help pupils to understand a story?

It can be done in different ways:

- Catching the attention of the students
- With prestory-telling activities.
- With real images or illustrations

6- What is a storytelling?

Storytelling is a powerful tool in the hands of the language teacher. We will explore different storytelling techniques and how these can be used to teach English to very young learners. This part of the course aims to provide background information to issues in early literacy. The classroom is an appropriate place to familiarize children with literacy and we should create an environment that encourages the development of reading and writing skills.

7- Reading or telling stories?

Both. Although in some cases there is more telling than reading

8- How can I improve my storytelling skills?

-       Prepare yourself (practice, listen it, the pronunciation, adapt it if necessary…)

-       Use storytelling techniques (know what questions to ask, what I am going to say about the illustrations…)
