This video shows a conference about “the secret of working with children” addressed to teachers of different schools. Carol, the speaker, gives a series of guidelines and suggestions which should be carry out for the teaching-learning process will be effective.
She says that everything that is taught to children must be situated in a context that connects with reality, that the child understands everything he is doing (games, activities, workshops…) and to attract the pupil’s interest so that the child can acquire new ideas in a meaningful way.
A way of carrying out the teaching-learning process is following the learning cyrcle that figure by four significant words: connect (a connection should be established between the child and the subject for the treatment); activate (the child must participate and be active); demonstrate (must demonstrate that they know what the children are doing); and, the last one, consolidate (to review what has been learned).
For this, the teacher should have:
a) Emotional intelligence, being able to focus on the subjects from his point of view, from the student and from the outside to have a complete approach.
b) Good communication, using the body language and congratulating when they do things right.
c) Sensory acuity
d) Tactical talk, offering them the possibility to choose between several options
f) Self-evaluation, to improve teaching
g) Rapport, that children feel that you understand them.
The conclusion that I arrive at is that to carry out a good learning-teaching process, you must take into account two fundamental aspects:
- What you want to teach
- How to teach
And the secret to get it is inside us.
